In addition to being a licensed therapist (offering counseling to residents of MN) and CDCES (offering diabetes education and coaching worldwide), I am also the co-founder of the annual Diabetes + Mental Health Virtual Conference. Our mission is to create programming focused on highlighting the mental health impact of diabetes and provide tools, strategies and resources to cope. One of our goals this year is to create programming that is consistent, rather than just the one conference that happens annually.
We are very excited to announce our first workshop, “The Fear of Affording Diabetes,” taking place Wednesday, Nov 1, 7-8:30pm EST online.
This workshop explores the often-overlooked mental health impact of financial distress caused by diabetes. Our expert speakers will shed light on the challenges faced by individuals and provide valuable insights on coping strategies and resources available to patients. We will discuss:
research on the mental health impact around the cost of diabetes
how PWDs and providers can reduce the financial distress of diabetes,
reviewing current resources for accessing medications
We encourage everyone (!) - PWDs, caregivers, and healthcare providers - to attend this workshop.
Our speakers are Dr. Julia Blanchette and Dr. Katherine Wentzell. Dr. Blanchette is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and a Nurse Scientist at University Hospitals Division of Endocrinology in Cleveland, and she is also living with T1D. Dr. Katherine Wentzell,PhD, PNP, BC-ADM, is a pediatric nurse practitioner and postdoctoral research fellow at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.
