A couple of weeks ago, I surveyed my Instagram audience to see what they found to be the hardest part of managing diabetes during the holidays. Here’s what they said:
Keeping track of carbs while grazing on holiday treats
The fear of missing out on the fun and all the food
Anticipating the time when food is served (not knowing when to prebolus)
Guesstimating on carb counts
Not knowing what’s in homemade foods
Lack of planning around what food will be served
Unpredictability on timing
Lack of a normal schedule
Family members not understanding or making rude/insensitive comments
Keeping a balance with indulging on treats
All the extra treats and unfamiliar foods
Any of these feel familiar? And these are only some of the typical headaches that people with diabetes deal with around the holidays.
Only 31% of my audience said they felt pretty prepared or very prepared for the holidays. How about you?
How do you think it would feel if instead you…
Confidently navigated dosing strategies for a wide variety of food
Calmly and firmly responded to intrusive questions and comments
Compassionately made space for own needs and self-care
Created a flexible plan for diabetes tasks that didn’t feel like it was usurping your precious time with family and friends
Could really, truly believe that you could have good BGs AND a good holiday, and that a higher A1C in January was not inevitable.
If this sounds like something you could benefit from, I’ve got some good news!
